Hospitable Meetings

Umbrella of Hospitality

It occurs to me that we are all quite hospitable in ways that are consistent with our individual backgrounds and values. We all, to varying degrees, understand the realities of the multicultural world. The challenge to us is to create a hospitable outreach that is consistent with our own beliefs, traditions, and culture, and that also engages the other person fully and positively. It is essential that the person we are reaching out to attract experiences all of us as overwhelmingly hospitable. In short - extend the invitation in ways that reveal your individual behaviors of hospitality with sensitivity for the person you are speaking to even if you are not in the mood. This must be done in a manner and that causes the sense of welcoming, passion and warmth in you and the other.

Hospitality. The quality or disposition of receiving and treating guests and strangers in a warm, friendly, generous way. (Random House Dictionary of the English Language).

Multicultural. of, or pertaining to, or representing several different cultures or cultural elements. (Random House Dictionary of the English Language).
